Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Parish Registers Evercreech - CROSS
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 09:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi Kris,

I note your reference to the 1800 marriage of Charles Robins and Elizabeth Penny in Evercreech noted in this thread, and the list of their children. I believe my wife's direct line ancestor John Robins, born Evercreech on 26th July 1812 is also of this marriage.

I am making the assumption that these are all children of that marriage but are you able to confirm that the parish records make it clear that the parents are Charles Robins and Elizabeth Penny, as the IGI records don't give a surname for Elizabeth.

I note the two children named George Robins (born 1804 and 1810) have the same birth date, 19th August, and wonder if there are two records or if one is incorrect. A burial record for George age 3 in 1807 would suggest the 1804 one is at least right.

Any assistance appreciated.

All the best, David

London and Middlesex / Re: John Bennett & Lucy Taylor, Southwark, Surrey

Hi Trish

Only info I have on John Bennett comes from son William Taylor Bennett's 1855 birth certificate and then William's marriage record in Bethnal Green to Annie Jane Hook in 1875.

Can't see John on a census or a marriage for he and Lucy, but I have an 1871 record for "Louisa" Bennett and son William. Louisa Bennett Visitor married age 40  born Middlesex Shoreditch, and William Bennet unmarried visitor age 16 Gold beater born Surrey Borough. The reference RG10/458 Folio 48.  They are visitors at 31 Grange Street, Shoreditch house of George White, Carman, born Cambridge and his family. Pretty certain that's them as William Taylor Bennett was indeed a gold beater. I have 1861 and earlier census leads on Lucy as well but nothing that helps on John or if he and Lucy had other children.

Yup, you are right in 1881 William Taylor Bennett and wife Annie Jane and family are living at 34 Washinton St in Brighton. By 1891 they had all moved to Glasgow, presumably to follow his gold beating work.  William goes AWOL after 1893 but that's another story!

Appreciate you taking the time.

Best wishes,

Killie

Thanks ev

Well spotted. Been in touch with one of the contacts for several years. As he notes the parents, birthdate and place for Alexander McMillan are open matters, with several prospective answers. Believe birth is between 1800 and 1805. Complicated as he was Mullen on marriage record but McMillan from 1841 census. My big brick wall.

Many thanks

killie

My ancestor Eliza Sellwood, my Great Great Grandmother, was born c 1829 in Stroud, Gloucestershire. her father was James Sellwood and Hester or Esther Hensley. James Sellwood was a Cordwainer or a boot and shoemaker. An 1841 census record shows the family living at Bisley, Stroud Gloucestershire. As well as James and Hester, there are daughters Eliza aged 12, and Henlsey aged 9, living at what looks like Middle Street. Eliza Sellwood married William Young Hook in Bethnal Green, London in 1848. Interested to hear if anyone connected
