Monmouthshire / Alfred Benjamin Waters (or Walters) of Abersychan/Blaenavon
« on: Wednesday 04 September 13 22:29 BST (UK)  »
My great-grandmothers brother Alfred Benjamin Waters was registered first quarter of 1875 at Pontypool, Mon and baptised in Abersychan, Pontypool on 25 April 1875

In the 1881 Census, the family are living at 5 Hill Street, Blaenavon,

Benjamin Waters 32
Mary S. Waters 28
Virginia S. Waters 7
Alfred B. Waters 6
Ernest G. Waters 3
E. Mary Waters 1

By the time of the 1891 Census, Mary S, my great great grandmother had died (April 1888) and was buried at Blaenavon and Benjamin, E. Mary & a further daughter Elvira H were lodging at Abersychan - there is no sign of Alfred

Through much searching I have failed to find him .... the family was prone to be recorded as both Waters & Walters but no records seem to fit

If anyone can throw any light on this it would be appreciated

Thanks

Gloucestershire / My confusing Hatfield relatives
« on: Friday 01 March 13 10:30 GMT (UK)  »
My step great-grandfather (if there is such a thing!) was born Nathaniel James Hatfield in 1874 at St Briavels, Gloucestershire, the son of Alfred & Elizabeth - Alfred was a boot & shoemaker born circa 1843 although his birthplace is dubious as various sources cite Llangarron, Herefordshire & Somersetshire

I can find Alfred and his wife and some children on both the 1881 & 1891 Census but there's no sign of Nathaniel on either

Neither can I find a suitable birth record for his father although through mis-spelling it can be Hatfield, Atfield, Attfield or Hattfield

Can anyone throw any light on these mysteries?

Thanks

Monmouthshire / A bit of a brick ...
« on: Thursday 07 February 13 14:41 GMT (UK)  »
My relative, Ann Price (b c1832 Blaenafon/Llanover Mon.) married a James Harris on 7 Nov, 1852 at Llanhilleth - witnesses were Mrs Hadlin (mother of the bride) & Titus Lewis - both "of full age" so I am unsure of James Harris' age.

In the 1851 Census the then unmarried Ann was residing at 172 Augusta Street, Victoria Ironworks, Tredegar, Bedwellty with stepfather Thomas Hadle(i)n aged 28 and mother Eliza aged 46.

I have been unable to find them after this marriage and would appreciate some help

Thanks all

Worcestershire / John Waite (born c 1851)
« on: Monday 05 November 12 17:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

My first record of relative John Waite is the 1871 Census for Trevethin where he is 18 years old, lodging with the Tew family at the Cambrian Inn, Pontypool - listed as born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire

By 1881 he had married my ggm's sister Jane Ann Price & was living in Llangattock, Brecs

All subsequent census returns confirm the Kidderminster birth yet I cannot find him in the 1861 Census nor can I find a suitable birth in the area for him

He died in Jan 1926 in Blaenafon, Monmouthshire aged 74 years leaving a large family behind him .... yet I cannot go back further than 1871

If anyone could assist, would appreciate  ;)

Monmouthshire / Mary Bell of Shirenewton
« on: Sunday 28 October 12 16:19 GMT (UK)  »
My 3 x great grandmother was Mary Bell, born circa 1812/13 at Shirenewton

I have been unable to find any further records for her parentage and wondered if Shirenewton baptisms are available for this time

She married in 1844 to Charles Watkins of Woolaston & died in 1883 in Woolaston, Glos.

Thank you
Rich

Monmouthshire / Gilbert 1851 & 1861 Census
« on: Tuesday 09 October 12 17:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have my relative David Gilbert (b c1836 Trevethin, Mon) in the 1841 Census in Trevethin with his father William Gilbert (c1803-c1875), mother Catherine (c1814-1878), brother William (b 1838) & sister Sarah (b 1840)

By the 1871 Census they were living in Blaenavon, Mon ... however, I can find no trace of this family in either the 1851 or 1861 Censuses

I know that William Gilbert married Susannah Edwards in the Pontypool reg district in 1858 & David Gilbert married Sarah Ann Hall in Trevethin, Pontypool in 1864

I've drawn a blank and wondered if anyone could help me find them?

Thanks

Wiltshire / Bromham epidemics?
« on: Friday 05 October 12 22:32 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone info on any epidemics that occurred in Bromham in the 19th century - in particular the mid 1800's - I have found many members of the same family dying in the space of a two week period

Wiltshire / Arthur AMOR of Bromham
« on: Sunday 30 September 12 17:56 BST (UK)  »
I am failing to find my ggf's brother, Arthur Amor who was baptised in Bromham, Wilts on 26 July, 1885

He is in the 1891 Census for Bromham at home with his widowed father, Andrew Amor and then disappears

The family split after Andrew's remarriage in 1895 with several siblings leaving home, my ggf was one of those

There are WW1 records for an Arthur Amor, killed in action but these refer to a different Arthur

Does anyone know of this person?

Thanks
Rich
