Hi Scott,
The Kennedys are everywhere - but not the ones I am looking for!! Like you.
I have an ANDERSON tree on Ancestry(private as it is WIP). My grandfather Anderson went to OZ in 1908 from Waterford but his mother had already been in OZ since 1888. Her mother was Connolly from Tipperary(Ballypatrick). Her Aunt Ellen Connolly married Rody Kennedy Tipp) in Melbourne.

My granfather, John Anderson married Violet Pearce, whose father was John PEARCE. ( it took 2 years and a lot of luck to find out who he really was). He is the son of Lucy BANNISTER , born 1865 Goulburn the year before she married Jean BETTINI. Baptised John P(ierce) Bannister & mother Lucy Bannister (no father). He always named  mother as Lucy BELL & father John PEARCE (this was fictional) . I think that he was kept close to the Bettini family though. When he dies his wife Maragaret married his nephew (son of Catherine Bettini his half sister). Margaret was a NOBLE (father Francois NOBLE from France) born Moruya. All ended up in Charters Towers and Townsville. I am guessing there was some other links in the families - yet to be discovered.

If you know anything about Sarah Bannisters life then she had 4 partners/poss husbands. It is all so complicated. Your Henry B was allegedly born "Henry Bannister PEARCE". Have you heard this? I cannot find a record of his birth. Story goes he dropped the PEARCE as he did not like his father? I can't find any version of his name YET. His marriage record also has Henry B PEARCE m Venena Pennington in Moruya (Does that match your Henry?) BUT his death record shows him as Henry Banister with wife Venina Penning . So the story looks right.

Can't wait to hear what you have on the family. I continue to struggle to find where Sarah B was actually from and how many children she actually has with which names and what is fact and what is "fiction".

I am sure I have confused you but post back to see what we both have . We are cousins I guess (Ancestry tells me you are my 3rd cousin). Are you in QLD ? Are you ok with the flooding? I am from Townsville but living in the UK so have the ice & snow instead.

Look forward to hearing from you

Hello, Found your messages. I am looking at your Bannister family and also Kennedy.

Henry B Bannister b Yass 1855 - mother Sarah born Somerset? what a family to trace. Sarahs daughter Lucy Bannister (Married Bettini) is my g-g grandmother. Please tell me - have you ever found a birth record for Henry B Bannister and what is the B for.

My other side married into Kennedy from Tipperary. Rody Kennedy (father Patrick and mother Mary Carthy) came to OZ married Connolly- no Andrew (that I know of) . Not having much luck with the details but have some siblings names & birth dates & locations - Drom, Fishmoyne etc etc.

Lets talk

Deb,

I would just like to say a thank you for your help. It is very appreciated. My man is named as George Frederick Christopher so I will go with that and try and work from Harriets birth cert.

Thanks again for you efforts.

Take care

Deb,
there are loads of entries in the australian newspapers as well when he was on tour! Lots about his appearances but zip about "him".
He went everywhere. I will get Harriets birth certiicate. Looking at all the records again, it is likely that Rosina and Kitt are the correct leads - there are no other records that come up. It would be interesting to know if he had a circus send off. He was certainly a veteren of that world.

I have asked on the Circus history site as well which is where his short profile came from but no takers on "real" family. I have exhausted the web sites so don't go to more effort unless you have an interest (the chase).

Thanks so much

Erin

I had found the 1881 census entry for him as "george Christoff" in  Lambeth and his death. He is recorded in a book : "Victorian arena - The performers" ( NZ help gave me this info). A summary of his career. But does not say where born or mention wife or children except he was born around 1826.
Kitt is more than likely a nick name - it is usually short for CHRISTOPHER. So that would make dad - Christopher Christopher.

George C died 13 June 1881 aged 55. His daughter's marriage record states her father is George Frederick Christopher (Circus Dancer) and is deceased. Her marriage was 3 October 1881.(same year). She is Harriet Hannah Christopher (sometimes called Henriette) She was 26 in 1881 when she married in London.

If I could find out how census were handled for Circus population then it would be really helpful. I will keep trying to find that.

Thanks for your help Deb but maybe we are looking for something not to be found.

Deb Thanks. I had a look at those also and thought ...maybe/maybe not. I found out some more . He is "Herr Christoff" a coloured tightrope walker. real name george Frederick Chritsopher. Died 1881 Lambeth Infirmary, London. Tricky to find - had some help from a gent in NZ. Death registered under "herr Christoff" not his real name! Says born Swansea, Wales!! Also that he was a widower? Can't find that. Where he was buried or if funeral held.

Can't find and really convincing family details still. Documented career - father was also George! So doesn't match. Apparently though mum and dad both Circus as Mme and MS Christoff. I have found a few bits and they did do equestrian sometimes. So confusing. I need to find out how census worked for travelling people. George toured USA, Australia and NZ as well as UK.

I saw someone looking for links to Herr and Rosina in OZ but would need dates checking for when he was there - looked wrong as well! ( maybe there are Rosinas and Herrs in a lot of places ) .

Thanks again

I am trying to find out about George Frederick Christopher maybe valled "Herr  Christophe" a tight rope Dance in 1850-1860. He toured Australia in 1860 with  Worrell and Gardiner's North American (Circus) Company.

He had a daughter Harriet Hannah (or Henriette sometimes) who was born in Liverpool 1856.

He was deceased by 1881 when she married (shown on marriage cert).

Can any one help?

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: NOBLE family name
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 08:29 BST (UK)  »
I do not have a lot. He died in 1899 in Goulburn Australia. I cannot find entry to Oz yet but he was in NSW in 1868 as he had a daughter born Frances Noble to mother Margaret Barry. A 2nd daughter Margaret in 1872. His age was given as 41 in 1870. Born FRANCE town not known parents not given.

Margaret was Irish. I am pursuing the NOBLE name as a lead. A possibility that FRANCE could be a generalisation. The NOBLE name appears in IRELAND and SCOTLAND but FRANCOIS or FRANCIS is not commonly seen. I noted NOBLES in Channel Islands and consider that this maybe a possibility as he may also have been a mariner. It is a slim lead. He referred to his daughter as FRANCOISE not Frances. There were not many French in the colonies at that time so I am being open minded about his origins. I cannot yet find a connecton to a french NOBLE family.
