Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Look up for Bromsgrove records please
« on: Sunday 09 February 20 22:54 GMT (UK)  »
I don't see what the comment about locking this is all about?  I asked about Bromsgrove on the Worcestershire page and for different info on Cumberland on another.  Is there a problem with that?

Thank you.  I really don't know about the church, I can't actually see what they were doing in Cumberland at all as they neither had any connections there and I can only assume it was work related somehow.  I'll send off for the marriage cert and B/Cs I think.  Thanks for the input.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Whitehaven look ups please?
« on: Sunday 09 February 20 22:00 GMT (UK)  »
Is there anyone able to do a look up for two Whitehaven B/Cs and a M/C please?

I haven't quite got to the bottom of why but I have Thomas Brown and Elsie Capener (Thomas firmly from the Barnt Green area of Worcestershire and Elsie living just into Birmingham) marrying in Whitehaven, Cumberland in 4th quarter 1913.  Their first child Louis George was also born there 21 April 1914.  They then moved back to Barnt Green and Leslie was born 1st qtr 1919 followed by Charles H who was born back in Whitehaven in 1921.  Their last child Gertrude was again born in Bromsgrove in 1929.

I'm trying to trace children of any of the three boys, I know that Gertrude never married or had children.  Louis George married Violet Griffiths in 1943 but I don't think they had children, so it leaves me with Leslie and Charles but I can find nothing about their marriages/deaths etc.

I'm thinking that once I can establish their actual dates of birth I should be able to trace info on their deaths (does anyone know I can do this sort of reverse searching?) and see who did the notifications etc.  I just want to do a double check on the M/C to be certain I have the right people but I'm probably 99% sure I do.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Impossible task?

Thank you for that.  Second cousin once removed (or possibly twice depending on dates of birth etc) is what works with the chart I've done.  I still haven't started on DNAPainter but just wanted to say how grateful I am for the pointers.

Thank you, I can see I need to do some work on learning DNA painter!

We've had quite a breakthrough tonight in that we've managed to link her to my great grandmother.  It would appear that my greatgrandmother is likely to be her 2 or 3 x greatgrandmother on that basis.  That seems to suggest 2nd cousin several times removed.  Presumably I can see if that could be a possibilty, given the cM of 113, on DNA Painter once I'm a bit more adept?

Thank you so much for these ideas.

I've looked at DNA painter and had a little dabble.  I've decided to look at the full seminar as I imagine there is a lot of info I can use once I know what I'm doing.

Those DNA connections are interesting too.  For some reason her DNA connection back to me is less than mine is to her.  No doubt I'll learn why.  We have a 3.4 generation gap according to Gedmatch so I might need to translate those cousin type links into something which will fit with that too.  It all feels tantalisingly close but I imagine there is a lot more work to do before we get anywhere!

I'm wondering if there is anyone on here researching Michael Brown (1833 to 1896) who was married to Jane (?Jean) Dickson.  I'm particularly interested if anyone has had a DNA test done...
