Greetings from Bailieborough. My cousins wife Neva McKeague in Saskatoon has compiled a detail family tree of McKeague's who were raised at Cullies, Shercock and attended Corraneary Presbyterian Church, both locations are in the Parish of Knockbride. I contributed the earliest McKeague entries found in the church records. McKeague was spelled four different ways in the church registers, it would appear ministers spelled it as they thought it sounded and often times the people themselves were illiterate. William McKaig and Susanna Newell had Alexander (1832), Margaret (1833), Sarah (1834), Elizabeth (1835), Jane (1837), William (1840), William Robert (1842) and Laura & Samuel (1845). Margaret married John Brown in 1853, Elizabeth married Henry Brown in 1835 and Jane married John Snile in 1857. We haven't been able to tie this family to our own as there were at least two other McKeague families in separate locations in the Parish of Knockbride at this time. Hope this is of some help and feel free to get in touch if you have any further queries. Leslie McKeague http://www.bailiepublications.com

There are quite a few Irwin's in the records of Corraneary Presbyterian Church which is located near Canningstown, between Cootehill and Bailieborough. I can have a look in the records if you wish. Is that as much information as you have? Les

Cavan / Re: CAVAN - Adams and McCullough

I have access to Presbyterian Church records for the Bailieborough area. In the marriage register of 1st Bailieborough (Corglass) Presbyterian Church which commences April 1845 I find the following: December 16th 1851 William Adams, 24 years, bachelor, farmer, Durnaskea. Father John Adams, farmer. Matilda McCullaugh, 17 years, spinster, Tatareagh. Father Thomas McCullaugh, farmer. Witnessed by Richard Adams and Jane Adams. Minister, Patrick White.

The townland of Durnaskea is obviously spelled wrong, it may well be as suggested Dernakesh, as it is a townland closer to Cootehill than Bailieborough. If you take the townland of Tatareagh which is close to Corglass the proper spelling is Tattyreagh, this shows that the minister wrote it as it sounded and as he perceived it was spelled. To the best of my knowledge the Adams name in the area was Church of Ireland. Baptismal records for Corglass commence Sept 1861. You can contact me at (*) Regards, Les.

Cavan / Re: Hooey`s of Cavan
« on: Saturday 16 February 13 11:38 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings, your Hooey or Hoey (as recorded in the church records) attended the following church:
http://www.presbyterianireland.org/congregations/coroneary.html I had a look in the baptismal records which commence 1764 and find the following: Robert Hoey & Catherine Pringle, 4th child, Robert 1775; 5th child, David 1779, 6th child Robert 1781; 7th child, William 1784. (all baptismal dates) It's most likely the 4th child Robert died so the 6th was then named Robert also. Hooey's/Hoey's (it was pronounced who-e) lived on the Bailieborough to Cootehill road just north of Canningstown, some Hoey's lived there until about 15 years ago. There are a few more Hoey families recorded in the church records. Here we have the Hooey family in the 1901 Census:

Drop me an email if you want the other Hooey families details. Les

Hi Christine, many thanks for taking the time and making the effort to go and view the information in Woodhorn. I appreciate what you did and interesting to find out those little snippets of information about Rev. Ryder.
Regards, Les.

Berwickshire / Re: Rev. William Ryder, Ancroft Moor Presbyterian Church (1845-1857)

Ancroft Moor, Berwick upon Tweed is in Northumberland, England....I would put your query on the Northumberland Board.  :)

Terry
Thanks for that Terry, I have just done as you advised, I always preferred history rather than geography!

Greetings from Ireland. I'm compiling a history of our local Presbyterian Church in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan. In FASTI of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland part 3, I find the following:

William Ryder educated at Queens College, Belfast. Licensed in Bailieborough Nov. 9th 1843. Ordained as First Minister of Ancroft Moor in the Presbytery of Berwick, August 20th 1845. Built a church which opened October 4th 1846 and a church hall which was also used as a school. Resigned August 25th 1857.

He returned to Ireland and assisted in various churches including Bailieborough where he died c1903. The last 'Ryder' to live in this area died in 1930.
I suspect he grew up in the congregation of 2nd Bailieborough as there were Ryder families connected to this congregation back then but as yet I do not have any information confirming this.

Is there anyone who might have access to records from Ancroft Moor Church? From an on line search I see there are records held at the following:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=757-burp19&cid=-1#-1

I also note that a communion token exists with the date and initials: 1846 W.R. Rev. Perhaps a church history was written which included details of Rev. William Ryder and where he was born. Many thanks in advance if anyone can assist.
Regards, Les. http://bailieboroughpictorialpast.blogspot.ie/
