Berwickshire / Rev. William Ryder, Ancroft Moor Presbyterian Church (1845-1857)
« on: Friday 26 October 12 13:06 BST (UK)  »
Greetings from Ireland. I'm compiling a history of our local Presbyterian Church in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan. In FASTI of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland part 3, I find the following:

William Ryder educated at Queens College, Belfast. Licensed in Bailieborough Nov. 9th 1843. Ordained as First Minister of Ancroft Moor in the Presbytery of Berwick, August 20th 1845. Built a church which opened October 4th 1846 and a church hall which was also used as a school. Resigned August 25th 1857.

He returned to Ireland and assisted in various churches including Bailieborough where he died c1903. The last 'Ryder' to live in this area died in 1930.
I suspect he grew up in the congregation of 2nd Bailieborough as there were Ryder families connected to this congregation back then but as yet I do not have any information confirming this.

Is there anyone who might have access to records from Ancroft Moor Church? From an on line search I see there are records held at the following:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=757-burp19&cid=-1#-1

I also note that a communion token exists with the date and initials: 1846 W.R. Rev. Perhaps a church history was written which included details of Rev. William Ryder and where he was born. Many thanks in advance if anyone can assist.
Regards, Les. http://bailieboroughpictorialpast.blogspot.ie/

Cavan / Re: Rea/Ray family in Bailieborough

Hi Matt, most Church records in this area commence in the 1840s - 1860s but the ones I quoted from commence with baptisms in 1764. The information I have given you already is the only reference to Rea/Ray I can find.

In the baptismal records of Corraneary Presbyterian Church there is a Thomas Rea/Ray and Elizabeth Hall with 1st child born 1769 and 14th child born 1791.
Only the 1st, 2nd, 12th and 14th are recorded, none of which are Mary. No other Church records in the Bailieborough area go back to the 1700s. The Church is located mid way between Cootehill and Bailieborough. http://www.presbyterianireland.org/congregations/coroneary.html

Cavan / Roll of Honour for County Cavan...
« on: Sunday 18 December 11 20:13 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Cavan. Cavan County Council are currently compiling a book on Cavan casualties in WW1. If you click on the following: http://www.cavancoco.ie/cavanweb/publish/domain/cavancoco/Default.aspx?StructureID_str=388
Then click on the roll of honour database you will see Thomas King is listed. Perhaps you would like to get in touch with Angie Sutherland who is compiling the information and maybe she would be interested in having the photo of Thomas, that is if it has not already gone to print as it's due to be launched early next year. Regards, Les.

As far as I know the Woods name has gone from Cootehill. I have an old invoice
it's from W.H.Woods Ltd., Cootehill. Phone 15. Egg and Poultry Exporters, dated 4/5/1955.  Church of Ireland records queries to Rep Church Body Library, Braemor Park, Churchtown, Dublin 6. Tel. 014923979 or library[at]ireland.anglican.org
I think there may be a small charge for copies of info etc. Les

There was a shop on Main St., Bailieborough back in the early 1900s and the sign over the door read P. Timmins. Perhaps connected or maybe a totally different family......who knows! The premises is now known as Fox's public house.
I have a photo showing the shop but it wont attach here for some reason so if anyone wants it just email me at (*)
