World War Two / U.S.S.Nashville CL-43. US Navy Crew lists WW2.
« on: Wednesday 26 April 06 18:47 BST (UK)  »
Have found family snapshots of an unknown man on a quayside,
wearing a suit, carrying coat and bag, not in uniform.   Returning to embark on the American cruiser
USS NASHVILLE, ships name clearly shown.
There are French sailors in the background, the quay buildings look French.
The Nashville made a good will visit to Cherbourg in August 1938.
Also to Portland, Dorset in Sept that year.
This ship survived WW2.

I am trying to find out who this guy is. No idea of his name.
Can anyone tell me where to find US Naval Crew lists for 1938-1945.
Thanks Brionne.

His barge name ADELINE.
Also Barge, called RAVEN which has connections to his son WILLIAM CHAPPELL b Fobbing 1841, a Waterman.

« on: Friday 03 March 06 08:07 GMT (UK)  »
Please can anyone tell me if a Smiths Apprentice in Stirling c1851 would have  been for a Blacksmith, or was there some sort of engineering establishment in the Stirling area at this time.

1851 Census, shows Barn Rd Stirling with John and Marion Murray.
Thomas McPherson,  16 unmar lodger Smiths Apprentice.
This guy later went into the Royal Engineers as an engine fitter c1870 Woolwich.
Any comments appreciated, as trying to find more detail on Thomas McPherson early life.
Thanks Brionne.
