Hi Rosie,
That is great. I can't see that as I only have access to the the transcription. That explains some of the situation. William Green was originally from Somerton, Somerset (where we live), his son is in 1911 resident with his mother not far from the father. This son goes on to marry Dorcas's daughter.
I have never actually seen separated in a census form, though I expect that happens more nowadays????? I don't know what country you are in, but if you are in England you'll know we have the census to complete on 21st March.
I appreciate your help. I wonder if they divorced or Elijah died and that enabled her to remarry?
Thank you Doidy

Dorkes Leader , House Kiper, married, born 1879 Compton Dundon, living Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales. Her two children Elizabeth and Edwin are with her.

Thanks for looking, I am pleasantly surprised you are still on the case. Elijah is certainly a mystery.
Thanks Doidy

Hi Rosie,
There are lots of trees on Ancestry, but no one has his death???????? I am speculating the couple split up, hence Dorcas ending up as a housekeeper in Wales. BUT did Elijah die before she remarried or did she take her chance? Having a trigamist in my family, nothing would surprise me.
Thanks Doidy

Somerset / Elijah Leader

I am struggling with Elijah Leader born 1878, North Wootton, Somerset. Parents were Edwin & Elizabeth. I have his birth, every census until 1901, a newspaper article evicting him from his home in Walton, Somerset in 1904.
He married Dorcas Lydia Ellen Bowles in 1895, they had three children. The youngest died in Somerset in 1905. By 1911 Dorcas along with the youngest two children are living in S.Wales where she is a "Housekeeper", listed as married rather than widowed. In 1920 Dorcas marry's George Whale in Swindon, Wilts. He dies and she then marry's Francis Robert Attwell, a widow in 1951. Francis is from Dorcas's home town on Compton Dundon, but they see out their days (and were married) in S.Wales.

The mystery is what became of ELIJAH LEADER???????? He is not to be confused with others of the same name in Cambridgeshire.

Any help appreciated please.

Hi polarbear.
Well that did my head in. I finally got into the relevant pages, had to go through the tutorial to do so. I found Mary Kate & Alfred Harry, but not their first child Emma Georgia or last Ernest George? I didn't find Jane. I am wandering if she barely lived? Maybe not long enough to be bapt?
Certainly fascinating looking at all those bapts, there were a few Bicknell's, so obviously related to Emma nee Bicknell.
The million dollar question is how did you know which church to look under???????
I am learning as well as solving problems!
Thank you, much appreciated Doidy

Hi Polarbear.
I have just abt cracked looking for births, taken some time and as you can only go as wide as two years at a time, frustratingly slow. However I found two, that's one to many???????

1911 census says Emma Harrington nee Bicknell gave birth to four live children, 3 now alive.

I have three that I have followed through:- Emma, Alfred and Ernest, they all lived to be adults.

However GRO turned up Jane Harrington mmn Bicknell born 1895 Dartford, Kent, died 1895 Dartford, Kent. Happy enough with that.

BUT it turned up Mary Kate Harrington 1893 mmn Bicknell, Dartford, Kent. I have tried all the sites and absolutely no further trace of this child?????????? Now I don't know what to think?????
Thanks Doidy

Hi Polarbear.
Many thanks for that. My instincts told me Alfred Harry was correct. I have now tracked the family through.

I have reg with the GRO office, phew!!!!!!!! Now need to work out how to search easily????????? I didn't know this existed, so many thanks. I am sure once I get my head around it, it'll be of great use.
Thanks Doidy
