Cavan / Percival Michael MARTIN, born c1860, Cavan
« on: Friday 03 August 12 07:06 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out more about Percival Michael MARTIN.  I know that he married Elizabeth Ann ROGERS 13 Feb 1893 in Panteg Wales, and that he appears on the 1901 census (age 40) and 1911 census (age 49) in Resolven, Glamorgan, Wales working as a Policeman, with Elizabeth and up to 3 children.  Percival's father (according to the marriage certificate) was Micheal MARTIN.

I don't have much experience of Irish genealogy and was hoping someone could point me in the direction of some resources, or even help directly.

When Ancestry had their free offer on downloading 1911 census images (household forms) in May, I got so excited about downloading the images (managed to find about 70 relating to my tree) that I completely forgot to note the RG14 etc. reference for each image.   :-[

I'm not currently a member at Ancestry, FindMyPast or Genes Reunited, but just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas about how to get the RG14 reference for each image.  I've tried searching for the same records on Ancestry, FindMyPast and Genes Reunited and using hovering the mouse over the links and right-clicking the links to show the properties, but these do not seem to relate to the RG14 reference.

I don't think I am asking anything 'wrong' here.  I downloaded the images at a time then they were free, but stupidly (not the 1st time!) forgot to note the reference.  I also saved the images under the name of the Head, so maybe lost information about the reference which might have been in the original filename.

This problem has come to light as I am loading my family details onto LostCousins (great site by the way!) and they require the RG14 number and the SN.

Please can anyone suggest what I can do (apart from subscribing to a site, or doing pay-per-view, which for 70 images would be rather costly).

Oxfordshire / Thomas HICKS, born 3 Oct 1842, Westwell
« on: Tuesday 17 July 12 09:48 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out what became of my gg-grandfather Thomas after the 1901 census.  He was born 3 Oct 1842 in Westwell, s/o John and Sarah (nee SMITH).  Baptised 13 Nov 1842 in Westwell.  Married (to Mary SHEPHERD) 29 May 1865 in Great Barrington.  Mary and Thomas had (at least) 5 children, all 7 are together on the 1881 census in Filkins.   In 1891 Mary, Thomas and one son are in  Turkdean.  Mary died in 1896 in Shipton, Glos.  In 1901 Thomas is living in Shipton with a housekeeper.

I can't find Thomas on the 1911 census (I'm not asking for help with this, I know its not allowed!), nor any likely death.

All census records (1851-1901) give Thomas's place of birth as Westwell.

Please can anyone help with this?

Census and Resource Discussion / 1881 - Joseph Walter ELDRID / ELDRED
« on: Friday 06 July 12 07:44 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find Joseph Walter ELDRID or ELDRED and family on the 1881 census.

On the 1871 census I have:

ELDRED, Joseph Walter     1836 35  M
ELDRED, Frances Row       1840 31  F
ELDRED, Walter Hy St John 1867  4  M
ELDRED, Maitland Row      1868  3  M
ELDRED, Ethel             1869  2  F
ELDRED, Mary Beatrice     1871  0  F

in Hackney, all born Middlesex

You would think that with this selection of names they would be easy to find on the 1881, but I have had no luck.  There are other ELDRIDs born between 1871 and 1881 with 'exotic' names who may (or may not) be Joseph's:

Births Mar 1874   ELDRID  Gordon Heath     Islington  1b 308
Births Dec 1876   Eldrid  Michael Angelo De La P     Islington  1b 389
Births Jun 1878   Eldrid  Mary Selina C M     Pancras  1b 196a
Births Jun 1880   Eldrid  Valentine Byron C de la P     Pancras  1b 147

[Edit: it would appear that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of the above children are not Joseph's (thanks Rosie99).]

Frances Row ELDRID dies in 1900 and Joseph remarries almost immediately, maybe suggesting that he and Florence had separated?  Joseph and his new wife appear on the 1901 census.

Many thanks for any help with this.

Monmouthshire / Margaret Elizabeth ROGERS, died 1913, Panteg
« on: Wednesday 27 June 12 15:44 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone can help me to locate any newspapers articles or obituaries relating to the death of my gg-grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth ROGERS (nee MORGAN).  She died 22 Jan 1913 in Panteg, aged 71, causes of death given as 'Accident' and 'Haemorrhage of Stomach'.  I was hoping there might have been an inquest or similar which might have made the local papers.

Many thanks for any help.

Kent Lookup Requests / Union Workhouse, Bridge records August 1842
« on: Wednesday 27 June 12 14:52 BST (UK)  »
Original thread: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,523646.0.html

I'm reposting this in the hope that these records may be available at the new centre in Maidstone:

I'm hoping someone can help with a lookup of records for Bridge Union Workhouse in August 1842.  My great-great grandmother, Hannah MORGAN, was born there 18 Aug 1842, no father given on the birth cert, mother given as Hannah MORGAN, the birth registered by the Governor of the Workhouse.  Hannah snr later married George WEBB, and I am keen to find if there are any clues in the Workhouse records as to whether George is the younger Hannah's father, and when Hannah snr went into the Workhouse.  I have been unable to find Hannah snr on the 1841 census.  I know(?) that the microfilm number is 1655816

but I am currently unable to get to a Family History Centre.  Please can anyone help?

Please can anyone help me find details for WW1 of Thomas William HORLOCK, known as Bill.  He was born 20 Nov 1890 in Bethnal Green, London.  He married in Q3 1916, he and his wife had their first child 31 Oct 1917, but the family story is that he served in the Army until the 1920s.  My searches so far have not found anything.

I would be very grateful for any help.

Can some kind soul please provide transcripts of the 1891 and 1901 census records for Thomas William HORLOCK, born late (Q4) 1890, Bethnal Green, living in Bethnal Green.

Many thanks for any help.
