New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Wellington Archives Lookup
« on: Friday 20 September 19 08:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Have received your email. It is the first time I have seen an intention to marry and can really see the value of them. I am running a workshop at my local family history centre on finding family in NZ so it is great to see another resource that one can use. The application for engineer in the Navy was great as well. Seeing a hand written letter in the file is a bonus as well. AC Smaill was my grandfather so it is great to add to his story.
Many thanks
KK

Hi
Just to say I have had a response back from the state library and unfortunately there is no record of Lawrence at all in Queensland. The library certainly went over and above with searches. It is the first time I have used this service and I am really impressed.
Many thanks for everyone's assistance.

Hi
Here is the link https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records I believe it costs £30 and you will need the death certificate. I am presuming the person is dead. Mine took a few months to come through. If the person you are researching was also in WW1 there are records available on Ancestry.

Hi
The records extracted from the Payment and Victual (P & V) Ledgers were enclosed when I applied for the service record. If you look through my attachments the service record only went upto 1941. After more enquiries I was told 'The record cards as well as the pay ledgers do not record operational detail and we are aware that a complete picture of day to day activity, including possible service on ships may not appear. What we have provided, therefore, is as complete a record as we can given the paucity of information left to us.'

It doesn't help much does it? Have you got the service record??

Hi Gerry

Just thought I would let you know I have already had a reply from the Woongarra Crematorium with details of Laurence and his wife Ann giving their ages and date of death so that is a result.
Many thanks

Australia / Re: General enquiry re NSW wills in last 10-20 years
« on: Saturday 31 August 19 09:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Thank you both for your responses. Yes I do agree Australia and NZ boards are fantastic. If needing assistance everyone is so willing to help and go the extra mile. I have used the website you mentioned Emily and also a great one for NZ https://www.sooty.nz
It is great the cost of English wills has come down but it has caused a huge queue. Unfortunately I had just purchased some days before the decrease in price occurred. Never mind. I am encouraging many of my English friends to go onto RChats as I have yet to meet anybody else who uses it in my local group. Crazy really as it is so good for the UK as well.
Many thanks once again

Hi Gerry

Thanks for your tips. I have used the Ask a librarian at the State Library and am waiting on a reply. I will get in touch with the Woongarra crematorium. Thanks for link.
