Technical Help / Re: Connection problem
« on: Wednesday 14 February 07 23:39 GMT (UK)  »
I'll take a guess you are using a router?

I have a Netgear router which every so often (about once a month) causes the same fault....BT tell me I'm connected, the PC tells me I'm not.

All I do is switch off the PC, switch off the router and unplug the leads from the router, wait 5 mins then re-plug it and switch on again.

It's similar to the re-set button operation on the router, if you have one, but these can mean that other connection settings are set to a default so you have to set it up again.

Technical Help / Re: VISTA
« on: Wednesday 14 February 07 23:31 GMT (UK)  »
What makes me laugh is the number of retailers still selling 32bit PCs while at the same time pushing Vista!

Half the 'home' PCs in the UK won't be powerful enough to get the best out of it...it uses more CPU than XP and that isn't bug free yet as someone has already pointed out.

Technical Help / Re: AVG Free Anti Virus
« on: Wednesday 14 February 07 23:26 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone misses out on AVG Free Anti-Virus, Avast is always worth looking at....I have tried everything from Norton to Norman, Bullguard to Bull...t, and McAfee (ugh)......Avast has done the job perfectly.

I also run Prevx as well, although it does slow my smaller older PC a bit.

The earliest Snow in my lot is George Snow, b1836 Bishops Taunton, Devon.
Married Ellen Sloley, from Fremington Devon.
They ended up in Hampstead, thereafter Islington.

If it is any use, I have a small blizzard of Snows from around the same period....Hampstead and Islington.

I haven't researched them in depth, but there isn't a Charles Henry Snow.If you think there is a link, I'll post a few here.

Essex / Re: Anyone reccomend a link to an Map of Essex Parishes

I have an image of an Essex map 1787. It has all the old spellings of town and village names. It is a fairly good resolution and has a file size about 1.4MB.

I can't recall where I got it from but I guess there could be some sort of copyright issue if I post it here.

I don't mind sending it by email to anyone that wants it......just ask.

There was a huge pub called The Cauliflower in Ilford High Road in the late 1960's to the late 70's(I think the street number would have been about 500, or almost opposite No.500).....as to whether it had the same name in 1891, I can't say (I didn't go in there then, contrary to popular belief...) but it might give you a start in reseaching back.
