Australia / Did the Vanse surname become Dansey?
« on: Sunday 10 January 16 10:39 GMT (UK)  »
Melbourne Victoria 31st January 1891 James Dansey was born to Isabella nee Robinson aged 22 and James Dansey Shipping Agent, aged 35. Both parents are from Kiama NSW. (from birth cert)

Isabella was born in Kiama NSW in 1868 her father was William Robinson and mother was Frances Morrow (also have source)

The only marriage I can find is Isabella M Robinson to Robert H Vance in 1889. 3 years earlier than James Dansey was born.

Isabella and Robert had 3 children that I can find, Lillian in 1891, Winifred in 1994 and Henry in 1896.

Were there 2 Isabella Robinsons? Did she have a child before she married? or did the registrar make a big mistake?

I am researching this for a friend from church who thinks his great grandfather is illegitimate. I am at a loss can anyone please help

thank you for reading and if you can help thanks in advance

God Bless, love Ted

Australia / Frederick John FLETCHER (CORBETT) - where and when did he die?
« on: Wednesday 08 October 14 10:05 BST (UK)  »
There is a previous topic on this family if you think the name is familiar.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=652884.0

Hi Everyone,

I hope you can help me.

Frederick John FLETCHER was born in 1866 in South Yarra, Victoria. The mother on his birth certificate is Mary Florence FLETCHER. No father is named.

When he marries in 1890 to Lizzie CROWLEY he is calling himself John Fletcher Frederick CORBETT, and stating his father is John CORBETT.

John CORBETT was the informant on his birth certificate.

I am looking for his Death and anything else that can be found about where he lived and if he and Lizzie had any children.

You are always so helpful, I am keeping my fingers crossed that some of you will have more luck than I've had.

Thanks for reading, thanks for helping in advance.

Cheers, Ted

Little Annie Isobel ANDERSON is mentioned in a newspaper article regarding her father's accidental death in 1926. She is aged 8 according to the newspaper article.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/115127334?searchTerm=anderson rochester&searchLimits=l-decade=192|||l-year=1926

When I search for births and deaths of children her mother had. The only death I can find is for Annie Isobel ANDERSON in 1919.

Annie Isobel ANDERSON's parents were David Stephen ANDERSON and Elizabeth Eleanor Annie YEAMAN and the family lived in Rochester, Victoria.

Any help solving this mystery would be wonderful. Thank you, Ted

Durham / Mary MOON - what happened to her?
« on: Friday 06 June 14 15:26 BST (UK)  »
I am in Australia and I am tracing my husbands family.

I have his 3rd great grandfathers death certificate. Henry MOON came to Australia and according to his death cert he had a daughter called Mary who as far as I can tell did not come to Australia.

On Henry's death cert Mary is 51. This is in 1899. Giving her a birth date of 1847/8.

I have previously asked for help on this family but not specifically on Mary.

The last topic was http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=637842.0

A lovely Rootschatter found her with her grandparents on the 1851 census.  The family are living in Easington and Mary's birth place is also Easington. HO107; 2392; 428; 16.

I cannot find her on a census after this one.

Any help would be wonderful. Thanks for reading this.

Cheers, Ted

There are a couple of trees on Ancestry but I cannot verify some of the information on them.

Australia / James DAVIDSON born 1810-1817. Having children in Hobart Town in 1841.
« on: Tuesday 11 March 14 01:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I've decided I need help from you wonderful people once again.

I have purchased James DAVIDSON'S marriage and death certificates. According to the marriage cert he was born in 1817 in Manchester, England. According to his death certificated he was born in 1810 in Manchester, England.

He had 7 children. The first 3 were born in Hobart Town. Esher and Hannah, Twins in 1841 and James in 1842. The rest were born in Gippland Victoria.

My question is how did he get to Australia, and is he really the convict James DAVIDSON who arrived on the Duke of Richmond in 1844, as some trees on Ancestry are suggesting, if so how were his children born here before he arrived?

Thanks for reading, thanks in advance for any help given, cheers Ted
