Wexford / Humphrys of 'Woodfield' Newtownbarry.
« on: Saturday 03 September 22 09:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. I am looking for some information on the Humphrys family (Francis Humphrys) who is listed at dying in the late 1700s, of Woodfield, Newtownbarry (Bunclody).

I am after information on this family. Information on where Woodfield is and if it could have been leased by the Humphrys as from what I have seen it was owned by Maxwell family. Maybe Humphrys lived on the estate???

Any help great. I also cannot find anything on the origins of Francis.
Thanks, Katharine.

London and Middlesex / Workhouse records 1830s
« on: Saturday 16 July 22 12:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I am hoping someone with more knowledge of this topic will be able to point me in the right direction.
I have an ancestor and 3 relatives who immigrated to NSW as part of an immigration scheme for women. There native place is listed as London. To qualify for the scheme they would have been selected from a workhouse.
I am wondering if anyone knows if workhouse records for London exist for the years 1832/3 and where I can access them?
How many workhouses were in the London area?
Nothing seems to show up on ancestry for this period.

I have no parent information and am hoping to locate the girls in workhouse records to give further insight into their origins.

Thanks, Katharine.

England / probate and wills post 1858
« on: Saturday 02 April 22 07:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. Hoping someone can give me some advice. I have searched for probate/will in index for UK available on government website as directed by the page on National Archives.
Nothing is coming up. Would this mean the two people I searched for don't have their entry indexed, no will, or no probate (surely there would have been this if someone had died).
Thanks, Katharine.

Lancashire / Looking for street locations, and ancestors burials.
« on: Friday 07 January 22 09:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all. A couple of questions here.

I am looking for the location of New Butler Street, Manchester (Ancoats?). I can only see Butler Street on current maps. Don't think they are same as it looks longer and the 1911 census only has 24 households.
Also interested in any photos of this street (particularly No.13).
I am also looking for Swallows Place again maybe in Ancoats. These were both locations in the 1921 census.

I am also looking for burials of James Glew d.1928 (Manchester North) and Margaret Glew d.1938 (Manchester North).
I have looked at a few available databases but cannot see them at all. Any suggestions how to find their burials?

Thanks, Katharine.

Ireland / What do I do with this PRONI reference number?
« on: Sunday 02 January 22 08:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all. After doing a PRONI name search I have the following PRONI reference number for a Pre 1858 will for John KNOX:
 T/808 p.8870 & 13214

Can someone tell me if this can be accessed online somehow? I did already try using the eCatalogue but maybe used it incorrectly.
Otherwise, will this require an email to PRONI to have the record looked up as I cannot visit from Australia.
Thanks, Katharine.

Europe / Forced labour during WWII - information on relatives sought.
« on: Wednesday 22 December 21 23:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all. Hoping someone will be able to assist me as I am delving into unfamiliar records here!

My daughter's boyfriend has ancestors who immigrated to Australia as part of a Displaced Persons resettlement scheme. I have the documentation which gives some tantalising clues to their origins.
I have birthdates and birthplaces. It refers to brothers, sisters, parents (but not names provided - except maybe one).
It shows that both ancestors were in forced labour at Jeseritz until end of war, then in Displaced persons camps.

Can someone point me in right direction for suitable information on forced labour at Jeseritz (document also gives employers names and pay)?
Can someone tell me best place to investigate births? One is born in Wtorek Poland, the other in Moscow, Russia. Both are listed as Roman Catholic but we are sure the Russian wife is actually Jewish.
If this couple ended up in forced labour, how would I find the family members who I assume might have had the same fate?

Thanks, Katharine.  :)

Australia / NSW Land Records online - help please
« on: Sunday 15 August 21 07:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. I am busily looking up records on the NSWHLRV at the moment learning how to use it (very complex at first but I'm getting the hang of it).
I am wondering if someone can advise me.

I have three blocks of land granted in a town. 2 of the blocks are purchased in 1861 and I found them in the Old System Records and I managed to track down the original deed (?) but it doesn't give any further reference numbers or details to follow this forward in time. I already have maps of the blocks.
I have tried LRS to convert street address to VOL-FOL but the number is volume number is too high and I would have to order the document (which I don't want to at present).
All I have is the year, serial number, page number. Is there any other way to search for more on these two blocks at NSWHLRV?

For the third block located in the town, again I have the original deed (?) from Old system register and records, but the street address and all nearby blocks are not recognised in LRS when I try to convert to a VOL-FOL. Block is not built on. From the satellite map it looks like the whole block is now under one range of numbers (title?) but when I click on it LRS just tells me it invalid. Any ideas?

Thanks, Katharine.

Australia / Aberdeen NSW - history late 1860s to late 1870s
« on: Saturday 14 August 21 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone.

Just wondering if anyone has any local history publications for Aberdeen NSW. I have an ancestor John MORROW who had lived there during the late 1860s and 1870s. I know he had been working as a carrier, and this is also confirmed by a registration of horse branding for 1871 available on TROVE.
I can't find any land records so far for him at Aberdeen (but do have some from later elsewhere in NSW). But he had two sons both born late 1860s in general area, so presume they might have gone to the school there in their early years.

I am hoping they might be mentioned in a publication somewhere. I also know there was a school centenary, hope there might be a publication from that too.

Thanks, Katharine.

Australia / Tingha NSW - old photos wanted
« on: Monday 09 August 21 13:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. I am after old photos of Tingha NSW between 1875 1920 that show businesses within the town and main street.
I have already seen what is available on google images and basic internet search. I already have a copy of Helen Brown's 'Tin at Tingha'.

What I am hoping is that someone might have some, or know location of some that I might not have seen that could assist me.

I am also after a town map that shows allotments. As it began as a private town I could not see anything on NSW historic parish maps that shows allotments owned by people as it just says 'Private Town'.
Although I know one of my ancestors owned a property there (later sold) so am hoping someone might have a map with landholders on it.

I have already tried Green Valley Farm a few times but they have not been forthcoming with anything as yet.

Thanks, Katharine.
