I have the following books I am clearing out, all at excellent prices to help shift them! Most are in great condition, some almost new, none are poor. Condition is taken into account when pricing. Postage needs to be added, it is detailed at the beginning of each list. I will combine postage on more than one book. They are in no particular order, so it's best to look through the list. If anything takes your fancy please let me know by Private Message on here, and I will reserve until payment is made, which can be either cheque, postal order or Paypal. If you wish to save the postage costs you are welcome to collect from my address, I am near Junction 40 of the M1. I have this postcard which came to me with a collection of cards from the Keighley - Skipton - Ilkley - Menston area, and it simply has written in the border Cure Farm. Does anybody have any idea where this could actually be located? I may be reading it wrong, but it looks like Cure Farm to me.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / More photos - locations needed please!
« on: Friday 01 February 13 21:10 GMT (UK)  »
Here are another five photos which need their locations identifying. A friend is sorting through her old family photos and trying to work out where they travelled to. These are quite probably Yorkshire, maybe coastal? Thanks in advance.

Any help would be appreciated in trying to identify these three photographs. All English and coastal locations. Many thanks!  :)

Just a minor query ... does this word say 'boarder'? If so then why would it have replaced the word 'Lodger'? It is an elderly ancestor who was now living with his son. Many thanks.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Mytholmroyd or Halifax area?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Emelia Middleton Meggison ***COMPLETE***
« on: Thursday 30 December 10 11:10 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering whether any of the sleuths on here would be able to identify the location of this grave inscription. I believe this slip of paper would have been received by a monumental mason to instruct him on the epitaph required.
It names Emelia, wife of John Middleton Meggison, who died on the 19th of April 1838 aged 39 years.
Also Wm Sydney, son of the above, who died on 19th June 1838, aged 8 months. It was a tragic year for John it seems.
On the rear is what looks like ... well I'll let you decide what it could say, I don't want to prejudice your opinion.
Thanks!  :)

Visible signs are "Iredale's Library" as well as "Deller's Limited" and "The Irish Linen Depot". There's also mention of "Victoria Street" (bet that narrows it down eh?? ...!) on a poster.

The Common Room / Old engine house
« on: Wednesday 30 June 10 08:03 BST (UK)  »
Hope this is in the right part of the forum, thanks in advance if it is moved to a more suitable spot.
On the 1st Ed 1850's OS map for my area we have a feature which is isolated in the fields, and marked as Old Engine House. Has anybody any ideas as to what this may have been? Within half a mile there is coal mining, and within three quarters there are a couple of textile mills. Also a few hundred yards away there is Black Engine marked, also not associated with any other industrial features. One immediate guess is windmills, but I have never come across anything like that recorded in the area. I also wondered if they were anything to do with coal mining. Nothing of them exists today. If they were windmills then they are very much in the wrong spot, with a much more suitable spot within half a mile.
