Annette,

When I marked this thread "TOPIC COMPLETE" there was a nagging doubt that some detail was incorrect.   Re-reading all the posts, including my original reference to the United States Census 1900, it became obvious that Daniel TEADLIE could not have emigrated to the USA in 1848 as he was still living in Glasgow and, indeed, was to spend the period between 10/02/1851 and 09/10/1854 as an inmate of Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight.

I hope the "1848" reference is a typographical error. ::) ::)

Considering that he was in a veteran's home, the information may have been transmitted through a worker at the home, leading to more potential for error.  He also may not have been in a good mental condition to remember properly.   I have found that the dates of immigration given on the census many decades later tend to be less accurate.

My hopes , too, otherwise belief in the balance of probabilities that Daniel TEADLIE, TEADLEY, TADLEY et al is the same person takes a nasty rebuff  ;D
