My Wagstaff family did move to South Wales Ysgwyddgwyn & Bargoed. Unfortunately I don't have much details of them, but I have distant relatives who might be able to help if you have a connection to them?

I'd advise you post details on here of your Wagstaff family, and for more general advice post a new topic on one of the Welsh boards.

I don't know if the following is of interest to you but the Wagstaffs that I am researching were born in Herefordshire and moved to South Wales.

Thomas Wagstaff born 1835 in Much Cowarne Herefordshire, married Elizabeth Jones in 1860 having 7 children and lived in Herefordshire. She died in 1875 and shortly after Thomas married Maria Cooke having 9 children.

Thomas died in 1898 and in 1901 Maria Wagstaff was living at Ysgwyddgwyn (now called Deri) in South Wales with sons Albert (22), Ernest (17), George (15) and daughters Sarah (21), Annie (13).

In 1911 Maria was living in Bargoed South Wales (not far from Deri) with sons Albert (33), Charles (29), George (24) and Annie (23). Ernest Wagstaff was also living in Bargoed at a different address and married to Ethel with a son Francis Thomas (2).

After 1911 I have not got any further information on these Wagstaffs. My ancestor was a female Wagstaff who married and became a Phelps.

I don't know if these are the Wagstaffs that you are interested in as I am sure that there were many others in different parts of South Wales.

I have been trying to research the Wagstaffs of Stoke on Trent. I can not get past 1800 but have noticed a lot of the male side have the middle name of Bishop and this is past down the generations.  I have found no one with this surname  so I am wondering where this could have originated from.  Any help with this mystery would be most appreciated.

When I first posted about the Wastaff Society it was being run by Barbara Kent who produced a marvellous newsletter quarterly. Since Barbara's death the society seems to have closed but copies of the publications have been archived by the LDS.
