Can anybodyhelp me find a marriage?
« on: Wednesday 26 October 05 15:59 BST (UK) »
Hi .

I am looking for a marriage and have no idea where to begin.

In 1851 Wales census:

William Webbley 1816 Pontypool.
Mary Webbley wife 1818 Chilgeran, Pembrokeshire.

John son 1841 Rhymney.
Sarah daughter 1845 Rhymney
William son 1850 Rhymney.

I would imagine they where married after 1837. So I will trawl through 1837online, but what registration districts should i look for.

I think Bedwellty or Merthyr , but is there a welsh BMD i can search thats complete? Can't rely find one on ancestry.

Or if married before 1837 are there online parish records available except Monmouth?

Any ideas would be welcome.

Best match I can find is a marriage of a William Weobly - September quarter 1838 in Merthyr Tydfil district - Volume 26 Page 314.

There are two Marys listed on the same page - Mary Edwards & Mary Morris.

A long shot but these look a possibility. Cannot see any other William Webbley marriages in the UK that would fit in with the timescales.

Hope this helps :)

PS Mary's place of birth looks like it should be Cilgerran in Pem
Davies, Edwards, Evans, Griffiths, Hughes, James, Jones, Morgan, Nicholas, Powell, Prytherch, Rees, Williams in Glamorgan, Brecon, PEM, CMN & MGY

Biddle, Budd, Clark/e, Davis/Davies, Elliott, Emery, Harper, Harris, Lloyd, Parsons, Phillips, Pitt, Reed/Reid/Read/Rhead, Rogers, Scandrett, Smith, Tyler & Waldron in Staffs, Worcs, Hef, Cheshire, Shrops., Middlesex & Surrey.

Cooghan/Coogan/Cogan - Castleblaney, Co Monaghan

Thanks for that, i didn't find any Webley possibilities on 1837online .

That looks really good to me.

Her place of birth is transcribed as cilgeoan on a later census so Cilgerran looks right.

Thanks
