1851 Thomas Jones, Tregaron/Ysbytty Ystwyth
« on: Thursday 27 October 05 13:02 BST (UK) »
I’m still looking for my Thomas Jones.

He was christened on 22. Sept 1822 at Bwlch-y gwynt Calvanistic Methodist Chapel in Caron-Is-Y-Clawdd. His parents were Thomas Jones and Hannah Thomas.
He married Anne Wood, nee Davies (widow) after 1851, but before 1852 (date not as yet determined). Anne was alone in 1851.
1861 – age 41, born Ffediod, married, occ. Lead miner
1871 – age 49, born Caron, occ labourer
1881 – age 59 born Caron, occ. Carter driver
Always at the same address in Ysbyty Ystwyth. There is no sign of him nor his wife in 1891 – the house is empty.

Searching for someone named Thomas Jones is not easy, especially when he keeps changing jobs over the years. Could somebody with access to ancestry possibly check the 1851 census to see what options are given?

Diolch,

D ap D

Out of interest, I'll have a look in 1841 (I don't have the 1851 yet).   Hopefully he'll still be living in Caron or failing that Ysbyty Ystwyth.
As the 1841 is not indexed I need to have a good idea where anyone was living at the time, espcially a Thomas Jones.    Not as bad as John Jones however.   Have you found him yet?
Cheers Dave

Excellent, the last one seems to have hit the jackpot. From Thomas' baptism I got the info that his father was a carder, so that seems to be the confirmation.

Bit of a bugger that Elizabeth and William are listed as "Daughters son/daughter" without any sign of the daughter.

Any chance you could look Thomas and Hannah up in 41 Dave?

Cheers,

D

I already looked up Thomas in Yspytty Ystwyth in 1841 and although there were many, none were married to a Hannah.   Caron uwch Clawdd appears to be part of Tregaron and I was unable to find him.   Could not find Caron is y Clawdd!   The census is very confusing especially in the Tregaron area.   The Parish of Caron uwch Clawdd, which appears on parish maps does not exist as a separate entity in the Census, but appears to be split between other parishes eg Tregaron  ::)
I'll certainly have another look and try and find Thomas in Cellan (if I can find that).   I guess it too is part of Tregaron.
When I get back to UK, early Dec, I'll have access to more info.
