What can I do next?
« on: Thursday 27 October 05 14:21 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I visited the Worcester Record Office back at the end of August, and was really pleased when I found my great great great grandparents, Richard & Hannah Morgan their son Christopher aged 21 (my great great grandad) and much to my surprise a Grandson named William aged 16 (born Eldersfield, Worcestershire) on the 1851 census.

Having been unable to trace any of their children, apart from Christopher, I was really pleased thinking maybe I'd be able to find another sibling of Christophers.

Imagine how pleased I was when I found a marriage for William on the IGI, so I ordered the certifiate, thinking I'd find his dads name.

However, when the certificate arrived there was no fathers name registered (just a line drawn through). Although Christopher and his now Wife Martha were there as Witnesses.

I haven't been able to find a baptism for William on the IGI either ..... does anyone know if the IGI records baseborn children or is it just children with two parents?

Any pointers anyone can give me will be gratefully received, as I completely at a loss as to what to do.

Regards,
Chui

The IGI is not complete. There are lots of entries that are taken from parish records and they state that they are "extracted records". Others are sent into the site by people who are doing their family research, so not everyone is included. Some do have only one parent listed and some have the father with the Christian name of the mother, where the maiden name isn't known.
Hope this helps.

Hi Chui
I've had a look for William in 1841 but no William Morgan of right age appearing in Worcestershire. Did find this though in case you haven't got it.
Cheers jan ;)

Genni,

I think you may very well have hit the nail on the head with this one!

I have just done a search on a Ann Morgan and Henry Evans and come up with a marriage!

I had seen this census entry, but not noticed that the Wife Ann was also born in Castlemorton!

Thank you very much! It just shows you never know where your next result will come from!

Chui ;D

Hello Chui

Go to
http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:4_-pyCjv4uwJ:freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wrag44/eldersfield/eldersfield.htm+Eldersfield+parish+registers&hl=en

There you will find that on 2 November 1834 William the son of Philip and Elizabeth Morgan was baptised at Eldersfield.

Further searches on this excellent website should help prove if there is a connection to your Morgans.

HTH
