1851 Census - Sancton - Completed with Thanks
« on: Thursday 27 October 05 17:01 BST (UK) »
Could anyone help me with the following family in 1851 probably in Sancton:

Robert Kirby Head
Hannah Wife
Aquila son age 8 b. Sancton

An ancestor was living with Aquila in 1881 as a domestic servant and as her mother's maiden name was Kirby I think there must be a family connection.

Any help in unraveling this one much appreciated.  :-\

Hello Again Pinetree

1841 Sancton 1220/13/7 page 4
Hessleskew
Robert Kirby Farmer  Y
Hannah Kirby 35       Y
Cattle Kirby male 15 Y
Mary Kirby fem     15 Y
Mercy Kirby          15 Y
Hannah Kirby fem 15 Y
James Kirby male 8 Y
Isabellah fem 6 Y
In house 2 female and 4 male servants
Remember ages above 15 were rounded down to the nearest 0 or 5. Bet you knew that.

Cattle Kirby went on to farm 120 acres with his sister Hannah and 3 servants at South Skirlaugh they were both single in .
Cattle died aged  47 Registered at Skirlaugh Sept Quarter 9d 175
Mary Ann now Stephenson and a widow later lived with Aquilla.
Mercy married John Lyon and they had a Drapers business at Brigghouse Hipperholm employing an assistants and three servants, all living in.
Marriage Registered at  Pocklington 1850 Dec Qu vol 23 page 195

Lovely names and later to come Aquilla, I am looking up the derivation of this, no luck yet.
With an email add I could send you copies of census sheets. I find it fascinating to actually look at them penned all that time ago.
I have copies of bills and magistrates orders and apprenticeship and bastardy  forms for my ancestors back to the late 1700S. I have actually held the originals. My great grandchildren think I am a family history nut, I usually ramble on.

regards oly
