Duff family from Montrose.
« on: Friday 28 October 05 10:22 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find my Gt.Grandmother's family. Ann Duff married James Blyth in 1863 in Montrose,at Academy Lane  (the brides home)    Ann's parents were Peter Duff (sawmiller) and Ann Keill m. 1836 in Cargill, Perthshire.  Peter and Ann's family were Robert, bn (37) Ann(bn 40)  Jessy, Margaret, John Laird, Peter, Isabel, Robert Miller, Betsy and Andrew Neilson.   In the 1881 census Robert was living with Isabella at 13 Railway Place, Montrose, he was a Sawmill manager.  Jessy also appeared, unmarried and working as a servant to a minister of religion at Free Church Manse, Drumblade, Aberdeenshire.

Hi ysabeau,  Everything that you have mentioned is correct.  Ann Duff, bn 1840 was married at her home in Academy Street, Montrose.  One of her witnesses was Margaret, her sister.  She married James Blyth of Muirside, Kinnell.  They travelled to New Zealand in 1863, the same year that they were married.  Ann, before her marriage was a servant so no doubt would be included in the household that she was working for during the 1861 census.
