Gyvelia
« on: Sunday 30 October 05 11:21 GMT (UK) »
hi,
I have a relative who's married name is Elizabeth Cowap born 1814. on the 1861 census it states that she was born in Gyvelia derbyshire.
Anyone heard of this or could suggest this as a mis-spelling for somewhere else?

Hi Peter
I think it is actually "Denbyshire" - the 1851 has Denbighshire, Gyrelia. It must be Gyfelia which is just south of Wrexham :)

His wife is Mary also a Denbighshire girl, born Llon?????

Let me know if you would like the full details of that family.

Just noticed too that Henry and son Amos were "on the job" in 1861 as they are also recorded at another address, farm at Noctorum.

hi,
thanks for that great bit of information and yes i would like the family of Thomas. Yuo mention Amos, I have been trying to track him. There is a single Amos on 1861 and 71 also 91 and 01 but not 81. he was married then but amybe he was working away and not registered.

Now why should Amos be at home and unmarried if he married Mary Ann Pownall in 1870?
I can't find Amos in 1881 either. But Mary Ann is housekeeper to her brother - was he recently widowed perhaps?

Then by 1891 Amos must have died as Mary Ann is remarried

this side is reasonable, i have several out of wedlock, one forced to give birth in an orphanage due to a daliance with the master and also a doctor who was a charged and hung for murder on the other side.
Fun aint it
