Hi Danby,

There were a lot of families by the name of Begley in Forkhill, Co. Armagh. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php I appreciate this is not a lot of information but it may get you started. If you are able to provide either a
few dates, family christian names or both it may make the search easier.

Best Wishes, Christopher

 Hi Christopher,
Thanks very much for your response, the particular Begley's I am looking for are Peter a farmer , Patrick born around 1864 who came to England around 1891,he is buried with Bernard Begley who may be his brother and  he also had  a brother Ownie Begley who stayed in Ireland.
The link did give some family names and we will keep on looking, thanks again.
       Regards

I have some Begleys who were mixed in with my McAleavey family in Forkhill.

marriage 1870   John   McIlroy   married Mary   McAleavey   Witnesses Patrick   Begley   Elizabeth   McAleavey   Borrea

Do you have any connection with other families?  They are indeed mentioned in the Griffiths evaluation in Shean near my McAleaveys [a Peter Begley is there].

I have the orginal Griffiths maps with numbers for plots of land if you want a scan?  Shanroe runs right beside the Shean townland.

     Hi Lorraine,
We are still in the early days of finding Patrick who was born around 1864 possibly near Forkhill, Shanroe, Shean area we don't know of any other connected names as yet.Patrick came over to Middlesbrough in the 1870/80 time and had a son born here ,Peter,in 1894.Patrick's father was called Peter but other than this we are fumbling in the dark.Patrick married Cathrerine Collins in Middlesbrough in 1891.
We would very much appreciate  the Griffiths maps.

 Regards

     Danby

Thanks Christopher - do you know what specific information this journal contains.  Is it a study on the Forkhill/Shean/Shanroe area?

Danby - I'm in the process of scanning these - I will place them on the web in a couple of weeks as I'm making them available to McAleaveys too!

Danby I've put the orginal Griifiths Evaluation on my McAleavey page - not very fancy at the mo - its a word document of scans of the actual pages - you can see a Peter and Patrick in Shean there.

http://www.davyboynorth.f2s.com/McAleavy.html Broken link

I'm also in the process of trying to load a very large map to the site but may have to fiddle with it as I'm running out of web space!

I've highlighted the region where Peter and Patrick may have been located in the picture below [see the web site for the larger context] - there is one of the plots I can't see readily.  The maps are not for the faint hearted!  You will need a recent map of the area to compare!  Try Multimap its great.
