Hi Can any one tell me where the name Mallerstatt came from. I have a Axel Leopole Mallerstatt married in NZ 1893. I have tried Goggling Mallerstatt but all i get is my postings on Rootschat. The only other place is IGI where some one has submitted his marriage.

I'd say German, too.  There are hits for Mallerstadt, Mollerstadt, Mullerstadt.  Stadt = town, Müller = miller.  The family might have originated from a place named basically 'Milltown'.  (cf. English surname Milton).

Does his marriage certificate have any more information? (Some NZ marriage certificates, I know, give information on parents/birthplace - I think it's after 1880).  Here's a good site for looking at genealogy in Invercargill and that region:

I have his daughter's marriage cert. It just says hes a whaler. I am sending away for his this week

Axel Leopole Mallerstatt was born in Sweden. Are there any Swedish Web sites i can search.
