BMD's Certificates-local registrars offices
« on: Tuesday 01 November 05 10:19 GMT (UK) »
The URL below (scroll down till you see section 5, list of local offices), gives names and details of the local registrar's offices in Ireland, from which copies of certificates can be obtained; this is much faster than going to the GRO in Dublin. Each local registrar had to send copies up to the main office in Dublin, so will have the same information as Dublin has.
The service is usually very good, and fairly fast.

The November edition of "Your Family Tree" contained a money saving tip for people who are in Dublin researching their family history. The GRO can be expensive as each span of five years in the indexes costs two Euros and a photocopy of the full register entry costs a further four Euros. If you go to the Gilbert Library in Pearse Street, it's a part of the Dublin City Archives, they have a full microfilm set of all the indexes which can be viewed free of charge.

wow     what a fantastic tip.  Cost me a fortune in Belfast, looking at the records at £2.50 a go, (plus £10 a day).  But at least you get to see the original books, amazing.
