Cheshire Parishes - Irby/Woodchurch
« on: Wednesday 02 November 05 15:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking for early BDMs for Irby but I don't live in the area and have no idea which parish it would be included in or if Irby may itself have been a parish.  Any help would be appreciated.

R.

Thanks for that Peter.

I checked the County Records site but was unable to find any records listed for Irby and had no real idea of what else I should look for.

Regards

Marie.

Hi Marie

            The Cheshire parish records project online now as all of the Wirral covered, most of the entries for Irby folk would be at Woodchurch. Below is the link to the site, it is not the easiest site to use so if you have any problems come back with a name and I will see what can be found.

Hi there

From Genuki...

A township in Wirral Hundred (SJ 2584), mainly in Woodchurch Parish, but with a small area in Thurstaston Parish. In 1933 the civil parish was extended to include a small part of Arrowe. In 1974 Irby was transferred to the county of Merseyside.

Woodchurch, Holy Cross and Thurstaston, St. Bartholomew (C of E) were the ancient parish churches for Irby.  Registers of Baptisms 1706-1907, Marriages 1706-1837 and Burials 1706-1812 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office, where Bishop's Transcripts survive from 1581.

REGISTRATION DISTRICTS ;
Wirral (1837-1974); Birkenhead (1974-98); Wirral (1998+)

Hope this helps!

Sarah :)
