dead end in Camberwell
« on: Friday 04 November 05 18:37 GMT (UK) »

Richard Kemp (b1849) married Nora (b abt 1851, Camberwell) and produced Richard on 12.2.1876 at Picton Street Camberwell. On the birth certificate, Norah's first name is given as Roe, but I haven't been able to trace any records for her birth or their marriage (probably before first born William c1872). I've tried Row, Rowe

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Hello mc8
I have had a quick look at the 1871 census and Richard appears to be at home with his parents - father is Richard a hawker. Also on the 1871 is a Nora Rowe aged 18 b Camberwell the wife of Frederick Rowe also 18, a bricklayer.
Free BMD shows the death of a Frederick Stephen Rowe aged 19 in June 1871.
If Rowe is Nora's married name that would explain why you cannot find her birth.
There does not seem to be a marriage for Richard and Nora on free BMD yet.
If you think I could be on the right track I can let you have the 1871 census details.

I guess its possible-but Lambeth was a long way away for this family who only moved three miles in 100 years. The free BMD marriage records look at though they are now complete for this period-without the marriage record for Richard and Norah, it may well stay a dead end
