Searching for Robert John Humphrys and family

Hi, trying to trace the birth of Robert John Humphrys b.1957, b. Kings County, Ireland. I believe his father to be called Samuel Humphrys who served in the Royal Artillery.  I know Robert also served in the Royal Artillery and returned to Ireland where some of his children were born at Roscommon.  Any help would be appreciated, we intend visiting Ireland in the future and I am trying to cover as much groundwork as possible over the net before we go.  Thank you for any information.

I think you probably mean 1857.

Have you visited Ireland to do some research?

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish.
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as Robert was born before Civil Registration was introduced in Ireland. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
