Payne of Beaminster
« on: Sunday 29 August 04 03:14 BST (UK) »
Can anyone assist?  I am looking for anything on a Bryant Payne, born circa 1798 in Beaminster.  He was baptised in the non-conformist church.  Bryant was charged in Bridport for forgery of a bank note and was transported to Australia in 1819.   Appreciate ANY information or suggestions for further research.     Marie in Sydney

Hi Marie,

Have you tried this site ?
http://www.dorset-opc.com/
specifically
http://www.dorset-opc.com/Beaminster.htm

Nothing about Bryant I'm afraid, but entering Payne in the search engine brought up a lot of other Paynes, who may or may not be related.

Also, on the Beaminster page is an e-mail address for the Beaminster Online Parish Clerk, Zoe Martin.  Maybe she could help !

Hope this helps you a bit,
Bob

Hi Marie,
This is from the IGI. This sort of spelling variation is not uncommon as you probably know. Always worth checking. Regards, Frances
