Hi tigerbelle,

If some told you the English name Henry is something like Marhardy in Irish let us see if we can get there or somewhere near to it at least. The site below mentions Henry. It is on the list of favourite Catholic Christian names.
http://www.sci.net.au/userpages/mgrogan/cork/jane_names.htm
Is this query related to your Jolien Henri Walters? A little bird or something in my bones tells me that there is a lot more to your query than just an interest in an English / Irish Christian name.

Good morning/afternoon,

Yes, my great great grandfather was Jolien Henri Walters, born Devonport, Devon approx 1817

His parents were Thomas Walters and Hannah Newton

Several of us cannot locate him anywhere until his marriage in Australia in 26/03/1856 and remained in Australia until his death

An elderly aunt thinks he was really called "mulhenry, mulrohney, something to that effect, and to me this sounds Irish.

The name Jolien Henri does not fit Thomas and Hannah does it?

We are all clutching at any hint that might come our way.
There is no record of Jolien on any census records in 1841 and 1851

So basically, all I can do is look at every suggestion that is made to either disregard it or add it to our jigsaw.

thanks for your message and kindest regards

 :)

Tigerbelle:

The Irish for Henry is Annraoi.

Pat

As for Malachy, that is a pure Irish name derived from Maol which means servant or  devotee of.
