Hi Joncee

Is the Hall known to be in the North Riding of Yorkshire?

There are several listed if you search for the name in Google but can't see one in North Yorks.  :)

There quite a lot of places in England called Hermitage X or X Hermitage but the only Hermitage Hall I know is in Norfolk. I have copied this URL for you but there are many web references to it:
http://www.collectors-world.org/religious_centre.shtml
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

Thank you Ticker and Hackstaple,

I have had a look at the one in Norfolk, no help here at all, unfortunately no area is given for the hermitage Hall in Yorkshire that I am after, only that there was an Armytage family living there, with no area given  is why I have put out an appeal for help.
May I say how much I appreciate your info.

No problem.

What makes you sure the hall is in Yorkshire?

Hi Ticker,

The reason that I am looking for Hermitage Hall in Yorkshire is that the family of armitage that I am researching is from that area.
The family that I am researching is a Thomas Armytage who was born at colchester essex 1818, and from the info that I have his family came from Hermitage Hall Yorkshire, and that is all the infomation that I have at thsi time, hence my frustation and a very high brick wall
may I thank you for your interest.

This might be my most stupid idea of all time!   ;D

It couldn't be Armitage Hall could it?  Just thought how close the surname and the name of the Hall were.  Not that I can find an Armitage Hall in Yorkshire - though there is one in London apparently.

Or could it just be some reference to the surname Armitage that looks like Hermitage?

I don't know - as I said probably a daft suggestion!

Ticker,

I thought that but you see I have a second cousin who is still alive at the age of 96yrs and fully about and she is admant that there is a hermitage hall in yorkshire and that her family came from there, but!!!! it is not on her Birth Certificate LOL
I have suggested to her that armytage could be hermitage and I told her that it was written as spoke in the good old day's, I think that you have been excellent in trying to help much appreciated.
