Doreen,

It would help if you included all the information you have about Janet CLEATOR including why you think she was born in Scotland in 1810.

I note that you have posted requests about this lady on other threads (using two different posting names) and have had several responses.

If she is the Jane CLEATOR, a widow, age 70, a Housekeeper Domestic Servant, born Scotland in the 1881 census on FamilySearch living in Egremont, Cumberland then, IF she truly was a widow, isn't it likely that CLEATOR would be her married name rather than her maiden name?  If so, it would be a waste of everyone's time looking for the birth of a Janet/Jane CLEATOR ca 1811.

Do you have Janet/Jane on earlier censuses?  Is she with a husband?  His name?  Is there a more precise place of birth on an earlier census?

Good luck,

JAP

I know she was born in Scotland  as it says  so on the  census records  also  she is  registered as being unmarried when her son was born in 1840 in Cumberland   as far as I know she never married   she was born Janet Cleator  and died Janet Cleator   If you feel you are going to waste your time dont bother  I have tried to  help plenty of people with out a second thought   just maybe some one out there can help

Hello Doreen,

I'm sure we'd all love to help but it's so much easier if we are given as much information as possible.

For anyone who might also be looking, perhaps checking out the following might help to flesh out the family?

Doreen, if any of the above has been superseded, please don't hesitate to say so.

Unfortunately, for births before the start of Statutory Registration (1855 in Scotland) it is often the case that there are no records - either the baby wasn't baptized, or the church registers haven't survived, or they haven't been indexed.

I wish you the very best of luck in your search,

JAP
