Emily Jane King - help!
« on: Sunday 06 November 05 20:05 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for my great grandmother Emily Jane McCann nee King. SHe was a daughter of Thomas King. She was born in est 1870.

SHe married to William McCann on Apr 5th 1891 at ST Mary, Southwark St Saviour, Surrey.

Her birthplace is not known - you can see my frustating - trying to pick Emily out of many Emilys daughter of Thomases!

How do I know which my Emily is? Any advice would be grand...thank you.

What was her address as given on the marriage certificate and who was living there in the 1891 census?  Also what was her father's occupation as that can narrow things down significantly.

You can't find her in the 1891 or 1901 censuses?

I did have her on 1891 and 1901 census when she married to William.

On her marriage cert - her abode was Hunter Street - didnt say where about. Her father Thomas was a labourer.

I dont know how these helps.

On 1891/1901, was her birthplace just given as 'London'?  Or Surrey?  Even that's a clue.  You could ask in the lookups forum for a 1891 census search for Hunter Street - maybe you'd get lucky and her family would be there.

Labourer doesn't help much but it does mean you can discount families where the father is listed as having some trade.  What about witnesses? These are often family members.
