Hi Beardie,

While we are waiting for Alf to get back ...

Any idea of Edward's parents?

Searching later census for potential siblings, I see there's a Joseph Beard born ca. 1833 Stoke

On the 1841 census, I see:
HO107/908/9 41 31
Hales Owen, Shropshire
Township of Oldbury
New Merty? T

Thos Beard, 45, Labourer, no
Edd, 13, Miner, no
Sarah, 11, no
Josh, 8, no
Harrit, 5, yes

A possible?  :)

I did manage to get a copy of the book on Oldbury with a picture of Donald Beard when Mayor of Oldbury.
I have also now found the picture of him and his wife in the civic regalia.

PM me if you want a copy.

Dos anyone kow his father  and mother ?

Do you have access to census, Beardie? Thomas with a wife Elizabeth and several children seem to be at HO107/2024 413 33 in 1851 :)

1861
RG9/2022 14 24
Oldbury, Staffordshire
Junction Street

Thomas Beard, head, 70, colliery Lab, b. Umberlsey
Elizabeth, wife, 56, b. Stoke Prior
Elizabeth, dau, 16, scholar, b. Oldbury
Martha, dau, 10, scholar, b. do.

next door
Thomas Tolley, head, 32, Coal miner, b. Staffordshire Tipton
Sarah, wife, 30, b. Stoke Prior

Thomas (age 80, Farm Labourer) and Elizabeth (age 65, Laundress) are still around in 1871, with grandson Henry age 4 born Oldbury

Wonder if this marriage is relevant?
