Deja Vu? Family of Robert and Mary WINTER in 1851 Norwich Census
« on: Tuesday 08 November 05 10:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
This may seem as though I'm repeating myself, but I've just had incontrovertible evidence that the WINTER family I am searching for in Norwich in 1851 was not the Robert/Harriet WINTER family that people very kindly looked up for me...!
Extremely sorry about all this, but I wonder whether I could ask some patient person (probably all patience exhausted by now) to find the following in 1851:
Robert WINTER, aged 56 Baker ?
Mary WINTER wife b. Taverham
and the children were: Julia b. 1822; Robert b. 1824; Horace b. 1826; Alfred b. 1827; Emma Cecily (my gt-gt-grandma - found at last!) b. 1829; Agnes b. 1831; Henrietta b. 1833; Horace Martin b. 1835; Rosetta b. 1837; Martin Horace b. 1839.
I'm simply going on baptism dates for the children, and realise that some may not have survived or would have moved away from home by 1851.  The reference seems to be HO/107/1815 f. 383 p.14  Coburgh (?) St
Of course, if the family is easy to spot in the 1841 Norwich Census, then I'd very much like to hear about it...!
Very best wishes,
Keith

No wonder a quick look didn't find them - on as Winder - so why didn't I use your number immediately? I worry about me sometimes

Only Henrietta left with the family - just a mo and I'll add the details

Trish, please don't berate yourself!
But wonderful to find them, even under WINDER...I don't suppose they appear on the 1841 Census, do they...?

Hi Keith

I don't have any access to 1841 - sorry - and right at the minute I don't have access to any - which is why there is no occupation for Julia. I'll have a look for the rest when the internet is back to normal  ;D  -  if it is past my bedtime (nearly 11pm in this world), I'm sure someone else will track them all down. I'm somewhat slow, but I enjoy the practice.

Do you need any of them post 1851?

Trish,
Thanks again, but I think I'm fine for now with what you've kindly given me...
In another sense of deja vu, yet again I'm amazed by the fact that all of Robert and Mary WINTER's children were baptised at St. Peter Mancroft's, Norwich; this was always my favourite Norwich church - both outside and the interior - when I was at College in this city between 1969 and 1972.  Added to which, it seems that Mary Duffield, Robert's wife, came from Taverham, which is the village I spent my first teaching practice in the summer of 1970.  I used to spend my lunch-hours sitting contentedly in the churchyard gazing at the remarkable flints in the stonework of the church.
Little did I know then that my gt-gt-gt-grandmother was baptised there in the church in the late 18thC...
Or is there some kind of contented, knowing,  genetic element within us...?
Sorry, getting carried away again, but thanks so much for your help,
Keith

You're most welcome -  I strongly believe we all have a very strong affinity with the place of our roots so it would not be unusual for you to be so happy in that place.

Enjoy
