OFFER Family - Trowbridge 1820's

G'day all RootsChatters,

  I was wondering (and hoping) if anyone out there had any info on the parents of Henry Offer born circa 1821 in Trowbridge? 

  We understand that Henry was sentenced to transportation in c1848, in Devizes for larceny, and was sent to Australia onboard the Minden in 1851. 

  We have all of the Henry's family information from that point on but have found it very difficult to find any further info from the 'motherland' on Henry's parents.   

  I realise that I have not given much info to go on but any information on Henry would go a long way in my genealogical quest.

have found a birth for Henry Offer that fits quite well and you will be able to check
1821 England ...his death 24 Aug 1913
parents John/James Offer-Charlotte
His spouse Catherine May Touhy 17 July 1854 Bunbury Western Australia

Just had a second look and have found a birth for John Offer
10 Dec 1797 Trowbridge Wilt...parents John-Maria
Spouse Jane

Unfortunately I have found one more
John Offer 24 Aug 1798 parents William- Nancy Maria Brice .. still if you order Henrys birth that may help you out

In fact, I have checked the details I have for Henry here and your first reply was spot on the money!! re his death date and wife.

Now i guess, it's a case of narrowing down the John Offers' of the late 1700's or early 1800's. Don't you just love this sort of treasure hunt???

The spouse was indeed a Catherine May Touhy/Toovey (I have many different spellings of her surname).

She was born in Ireland in 1839 and they were married in Australind (just down the road from where I am now) in 1854.

They had 10 children, and I have most of details from there-on-in. It was the 'going backwards' bit I had trouble with.

But now, thanks to yourself, I have a good lead and will follow it up with antisipation.
