Hi Mrs. Griff

You say they "lived in Caerau from 1900?" Have you found them on the 1901 Census there? or is there another reason for knowing they lived in Caerau?

Johnny Roberts here was he born? - That might help

Also have you obtained his military record? which might hold all kind of goodies.

It's a case of working backwards, bit by bit.  You'll get there ;D

you can purchase his medal card online for about £3.50.

Ask for info on the armed forces thread.  I am sure someone will tell you more.

Hi again,

stallc is right there are medal cards available on line at The National Archives , but for the Army, they relate only to World War One.

To obtain his service record go to :

http://www.mod.uk/contacts/army_records.htm

It explains all you need to know.

Good luck

Mrs. Griff

Can I just ask, how do you know the exact year of birth for William & John?  I have not given up yet ;)

Hi Wendi,
I have Williams marrige cert he gives his age as 23 in 1907 and a newspaper report on his death in a colliery accident in 1923 gave his age as 39, it also said John was his brother ,on Johns grave it says he died in1960 aged 80,all the above info relates to the Cearau Area but they were not born there.
i have searched the census and the only match that might be them is in 1891 in Llanllyfni North Wales  but how do i prove its them in Cearau i can not find them in1901. All the info i have still dose not tell what i want to know where were they born  iwould like to get some sleep!!!  many thanks for your help

Run that past me again ???

I have Williams marriage cert he gives his age as 23 in 1907 and a newspaper report on his death in a colliery accident in 1923 gave his age as 39,

Marriage Cert shows DofB = 1874
Newspaper shows DofB = 1884

Or should I go back to school ???

If you have Williams marriage cert, does it show his father's name?

Because the Robert's are notoriously difficult to find it might help to look for them with their father on the 1881 Census?

Hi Wendi ,
                 it is DOB 1884   i think 1907
                                                         23
                                                      1884
i have found who might be him and a John his brother DOB 1880. with a father John on the 1881 census but a have know way of proving its them in Glamorgan  .they are the only two who fit the bill.i think iwill visit Kew to see if Williams WW1 records survied it might give me his birthplace then i would have more prove it is him  i will keep you posted
