William Pontin/g & Elizabeth Wyatt Marriage 1834
« on: Tuesday 08 November 05 23:40 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me find a copy of the marriage between William Ponten/Pontin/Ponting and Elizabeth Wyatt which took place on 17th Feb 1834 in St Peter and St Paul, Marlborough, Wiltshire?  What we are looking for are the parents of William, as there were several Williams of similar age and we would like to verify which one he was. Any help very appreciated, thanks.

Hi rootsreader,

You need to be aware that parish records before civil registration began in 1837 do not routinely contain the parents' names.  There was no place for them in the record.  They may be witnesses to the marriage but they would not be identified as father of the bride or groom.

This makes for tricky research!

Nell

Hi Nell and Alli,
Thanks for your replies. :)

You are right about the tricky research, if I could find the witnesses names that might hold a clue as it could be some other relation which would help to narrow it down. Can anyone help me find them?
