Just looked at the site mentioned by Ken. If I have digested the information correctly, does this infer that the 1911 census, until released, comes under the auspices of the Registrar General and not the Public Record Office?  In which case, it is still covered by the 100 year rule.

It also seems to come under the list of "Provisions to be retained".

The folks who completed the census were told the information would not be released for 100 years - encouraging the truth perhaps - so despite our yearning to see it sooner, I would think this is very unlikely.

Surely a Minister of the Crown has a duty to answer questions relating to their specific brief?  If I wish to ask a question regarding the niceties of the Realm's Defence do I restrict that to Mr Galloway for example?

I am probably wrong but it smacks of  :-X because they don't  ??? anything about the matter >:(  morons

According to a recent article in one of the family history magazines, the 1911 info will be a complete mess even when it does become available, so don't hold your breath.  I forget the details, but the gist of it is that it is extremely badly organized.
Secondly, now, don't all of you hit me over the head with your keyboards, but I actually think that people are entitled to have their original promises kept.  Many people born in 1911 are still very much alive, and might not want the whole world to know that they were illegitimate, for instance, or that their daddy was in prison when they were growing up.
Not that I'm not dying to see what's in that census!!!

The Prime Minister was quite emphatic on this decision (which I agree with) inasmuch as the point in principle in 1910 was that the parameters were to be strictly adhered to.  Fair enough.  Does that mean then that the decision of a government 100 yrs ago is binding on society now.  I bags for an amendment.

Pity though ::)
