Catherine May Touhy/Touhey, born c1833.

Sailed to Australia onboard the 'Travancore' in the early 1850's and married into the OFFER family.

Chasing any details anyone has about any TOUHY's/TOUHEY's or even TOOVEY's.

Regards

Hello Nate,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Nate- the first think you need to do is check all the records in Australia- marriage, death certificates, obituaries, gravestones, etc. After that if you are able to find where Catherine lived in Ireland (parish if not actual townland not just the county) and maybe the names of her parents you would then be able to start looking for church records in Ireland (if they still exist).
You might also find that other branches of the family have different information from you that would help.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
