Samuel Parker
« on: Saturday 12 November 05 07:57 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with a baptism possibly around 1818 for a Samuel Parker with father William?  Samuel was married at Sutton at Hone in 1838.  Later census state he was born at Swanley, Ever, Heaver, Heaverham while his death states Dartford.

I have found a family of children to a William & Jane Parker living in both Horton Kirby and Sutton at Hone with their last child born in 1813.  Family christian names are similar, however I have found no baptism for a Samuel.

Thanks
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine

Which parishes have you searched for his baptism?  Have you tried a lookup from the Hever records  via the Kent Lookup Exchange?

There is no baptism of a Samuel Parker around the period of 1818 at Sutton at Hone, Hever, Wilmington, Horton Kirby, Sevenoaks, Kemsing, Seal, West Kingsdown, Ightham or Wrotham.

I have exhausted what is on Lookups and ordered many of these films in through the LDS Church myself to no avail.

I have been given a baptism at Chatham for a Samuel Charles in 1820 to a father William John Brown Parker, however I doubt if this is the same person as he was only ever known as Samuel and all his children only had one Christian name.

Other possibilities I have not been able to search are Shoreham and Otford and If his parish was Hever then it may be worth trying the adjacent parishes of Edenbridge or Chiddingstone.

Later in life Samuel was heavily involved in the Baptist Church, so there is the possibility he was baptised in a Baptist Church.  I have no idea how to obtain records at these however.

Hi Lorraine

There are some other parish records for the Dartford area online:

http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/query/results/?Mode=Search&PathList=%2FZ4a_Medway_Ancestors%2F%0A&SearchWords=&DateList

But, as you say, if he were baptised in another denomination then it may be more difficult.  There is a list of some others (by parish) http://www.nwkfhs.org.uk/PARINDEX.HTM and you should be able to exclude some that are included on the IGI using the IGI batch numbers:

Thanks Casalguidi for the web sites.  I will continue to try all Kent parishes in the hope that Samuel will turn up somewhere.
