Thomas Phillip Shaylor
« on: Monday 14 November 05 18:46 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to track down ancestor details of my great grandfather Thomas Phillip Shaylor.  He was born in 1856 (don't know when in 1856) in Aberystwyth and was a mariner.  He married Francis Evans in 1881 and lived in Llanarth.  From his marriage certificate, his father was a Luke Shaylor.  There the trail goes cold.

Can anybody help?

Thank you.

(This is my first venture onto this site, I hope I am doing things correctly)

Thank you Sarah, that was very quick.  How did you find it?

Hi Shaylor,

I have searched and searched and finally come up with this family in 1871 (and I'm not sure you will like this because it seems Ireland is a nightmare):

Rg10/5558 30 12
Llansantffraid , Llanon, Cardiganshire, Wales
Portland Street
Luke Shayler, head, 40, Game keeper, b. Oxford Leafield
Jane, wife, 35, b. Cardigan Aberyswith
Thomas, son, 14, b. Killarney Ireland
Margaret, dau, 12, b. do.
Mary, dau, 10, b. do.
Frederick, son, 4, b. Cardigan Llanon
Richard, son, 1, b. do.

I see Luke is down as father in law, widower, 61, Common labourer, in the household of Daniel Davies (mariner - merchant service) and his wife Mary age 30 on the 1891 census for Llanllwchaiarn New Quay.

I'm not saying this is them. But I can't find them before that - Perhaps just keep this possibility in mind.

Tanja  :)

Edit: have modified this post. The census year should read 1871 instead of 1861.

I can't see Thomas in 1881 at all but have found the above family as follows:
RG11/5441 66 17
5 or 6 Brongwyn (or Bronquay or variant!) Street, Llanllwchaiarn, Cardiganshire, Wales

Luke Shyler, head, wid, 45 (he ages slowly  ;D ), General labourer, b. Oxford Whitney (Whithey?)
Mary, dau, 17, Domestic servant, b. Ireland
Fredrick, son, 14, Sailor, b. Llanon
Richard, son, 12, scholar, b. do.

This wouldn't be the address at marriage, would it?
