I wonder if you just have birth records of Mary, could it be possible that you have picked up a birth/christening record, with parents Francis and Ann but which in fact is the Mary belonging to the family I first gave you the census info for.  Do I make sense there?

You are probably correct Mary. I have only bothered with certificates of my direct line. The info. on Mary was given to me by another relative, and I didn't bother to check. Your finding two families with similar names shows how easy it is to accept without a proper check. I have suitably given myself a kick in the posterior!

Hi -

I don't know if you have seen the 1841 census, St Helier - no guarantees if it is right:

Film 0464353. Piece H.O. 107 1461
St. Helier District 2
Pier Road
John Touzel 60 Public WeigherY
Jane 25 Y
Francis 25 Cooper Y
Mary 20 Y
Albina? (F) 15 Y
Elizabeth 15 Y
Folio 35 Page 10
Charles Le Touzel 13 Sail m Ap Y
George 11 Y

I could have a look next week for the birth/baptism for Francis in 1818 to check his parents.

That's very helpful Mike E, forgive my butting in on your suggestion to do a look up but I think it would benefit  merntnn more if the look up was for the baptism of one of the children of Francois/Francis and Jane since this should give  Jane's surname which will be good to identify this family since there seems to also be another with similar names.  Both surnames will be needed for the marriage details so as to get their father's names.

Francis Son 10 Scholar " "
Ann daur 8 " " "
Jane " 6 " " "
John Son 3 At Home " "

These are the correct ones from the 1851 census.

Thamks to Mike E for his suggestion. I would think that Mary's comments re the baptism of the children is appropriate; if anyone can help it would be appreciated. Having now looked more closely at the census results provided by Mary I am convinced that these are "my" Touzels. Francis' Death Certificate from Victoria, Australia also lists his occupation as Cabinet Maker.

I have loads of information for you!

St Helier baptisms -
21 Feb 1841   TOUZEL Francois Gilles
fils de Francois Touzel Jnr et Ann Harvey De Fries
Gp.  Francois Touzel granpere et Jeanne Susanne Ereaut sa femme.
[Isn't it great to get the parents and grandparents all in one go!]

St Helier marriage -
18. 04.1840
TOUZEL Francois, St Helier
DE FRIES Anne Harvey, St Helier

... so I have also looked up both parents baptisms:

bap 1 Nov 1818  TOUZEL Francois fils de Mr Francois Touzel ar Mse Jeanne Ereaut s.f.
Mr David Ereaut gr.p rep Mr Francois Touzel gr gr p. et Mse Jeanne Sorel fme de Mr David Ereaut gr.m.

and also baptisms with the above same parents:
David Touzel - bap 15.7.1821
Jane Touzel - bap 4.4.1823

and

bap 13.12.1820  Anne Hervey DE FRIES  fille de Mr John De Fries et Mse Marie Gallie s.f
pres 12.8.1821 Mr Richard Hervey, Mse Anne de Fries s.f. oncle et tante

and also with the above same parents:
Mary de Fries  bap 29.2.1818
Harriet Susan de Fries bap 23.6.1823 nee 9.6.1823

and just for good measure, here's the baptism in St Helier of Francois Touzel Snr:
bap 12 Fev 1794 - Francois TOUZEL fs de Mse Thomas et Mse Sara LE SUEUR
(Me Francois Le Sueur g.p. et Mse Anne Mauger)

and with these above same parents:
bap 16 Nov 1791 Thomas and Angel enfants jumeaux
bap 1 Jan 1793  Thomas
bap 3 Sept 1797  Thomas  (presumably the first died)

and finally -
Marriage in St Helier
Thomas TOUZEL
Sarah LE SUEUR
13 Mai 1791.

I am fairly confident these are all your relations - so see if it fits with your existing information.   Please let me know if you need any help with the french - for example s.f. means 'sa femme' (his wife) etc.

I also think this knocks out the 1841 census information I sent you - simply because there does not seem to be a link with any John Touzel.
