Please can someone help me trace an Edinburgh birth in 1916? 
WILLIAM DOBSON MURPHY
I have his full DOB & mother's maiden & married names.  Two options of father's name. 
Have found Scotland'sPeople site fantastic but this is too recent.  I also tried GRO but don't have the district/parish of Edinburgh to order a copy of entry.  Where next?  I'm confused!

Welcome to RootsChat.

The SGRO should be able to provide you with a copy of the entry given that you have a full name, date of birth and the mother's names.  There can't be two born on the same day with the same name and same mother's name - can there?

Thanks, that's what I thought so will request it.  (I was just put off because the form says district is mandatory!).
