Which wife ??
« on: Friday 18 November 05 08:51 GMT (UK) »
On the back of this phot is written - grandma & grandad Hayes

John Hayes's first wife was Margaret Lawler (Born c. 1834) -she died in April 1891

In 1894 he re-married a widow - Margaret Schofield (nee Quirk) - she was 58 & he was 65.

Which Margaret would this be ???

I have to say that he is looking long in the tooth there, so I'd say she is No2 wife.

He would have been 62 when his first wife died....he died in 1909 aged 81

It has been suggested that this was the wedding photo when he married his second wife ????

I am not too sure??????

I think you are right....which is a shame as I would have liked a photograph of my great great great grandma !

He does look old - a bit Steptoe-ish ! - can't imagine it could be at his wedding - they look miserable !!
