I'm looking for anyone with the surname Spence living in the Raphoe diocese or Raphoe town.
The connections would be around Enniskillan or from Scotland.

Hi there- I am also looking into the Spence family of Drumhome, County Donegal.

Ann Spence, born about 1838. That is all I have unfortunately - hoping to find the names of her parents.

(she immigrated to Australia alone in 1861)

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Regards,
Hannah

Hi Hannah,

I think your Ann was baptised in Drumholm Parish Church on 8th July 1838, the daughter of Edward Spence and Ellen (or Eleanor) Kincaid. They lived in Ballynacarrick, just outside the village of Ballintra.

Ann had a brother George baptised 25th January 1835, and sisters Catherine bapt. 9th January 1842, and Mary born 19 February 1847, bapt. 14th March 1847.

I'm sure Edward Spence was born 11 March 1803, father Oliver Spence and mother Catherine McMonigle (??spelling, could be McGonigle) Ballynacarrick.

I have found an Ellen Kincaid who was born 1811, daughter of Robert Kincaid and Ann Young, in the townland of Lacklum. I feel pretty sure this is her.

I was born in the parish of Drumholm myself and have Spence and Kincaid in my family so if your date of 1838 is correct I am reasonably confident that this is your family...we might even be related!

Regards,
Carol.
