What is a Caster?
« on: Saturday 19 November 05 17:23 GMT (UK) »
One of my Ancestors is listed as a Caster in reationship to the head of the household.  What is this? Any ideas?  The occupation is listed as farm servant.

Hate to tell you but ,yes, that information is a good example of copyright infringement.

It is a copy and paste from an Index.

You just need to type the names and give ages in years and give birth places but get rid of 'England' and abt's. Head it 'Living in Llantilio Crossenny, Monmouthshire.'

Meanwhile I'll check the entry

Tricia

Example

Living Llantilio Crossenny Monmouthshire

Maria Llewellyn Head age 62 born Llantillio Crosseny,Monmouthshire
Mary A Watkins Servant age 25 General Servant born Glasbury Breconshire Wales
James Wanklin, Carter age 36 Farm Servant born St Weonard Hertfordshire

It doesn't say Castor' It says Carter which fits in with being a Farm labourer - quite common practice to do this. Often they would put Servant as relationship and then Carter as occupation. Just a different way of doing it.

Hope that helps, Tricia :)
