What information does the latest Electoral Register show?
« on: Tuesday 22 November 05 17:43 GMT (UK) »
This post will simply demonstrate my ignorance of certain things, but what exactly does a modern Electoral Roll show if one were to look up an address at the local Library, for instance.
I know that in the past, only the head of household was shown, and thereafter the other members of the family were listed too - not sure when this changed exactly, though I think I saw all members of a household in a 1934 Electoral Roll I paid to have looked up in Lambeth.
Could someone please put me right on this...
Keith

I recently looked someone up on a website recommended by a Rootschatter, called something like www.b4u. It gave all the people in the household who were on the electoral roll. And it was very useful!
If I havent got the name quite right try putting into a search and I'm sure it will come up with what I am meaning!
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

It show all members of the household who are of voting age. The list is compiled from the return, that the head of the household completes  (around June/July time) to be included on the register for mid October of that year .
I presume that all member were listed when women got the vote. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for all that Liz and Patricia,
It's just that I've never ever looked up in the most recent Electoral Roll at my local library, but I'm going to do that next time I'm in town.  I'll also look at the links you've provided meanwhile...
