Conroy in Ireland

I'm a bit stuck.
I have an ancestor, John Conroy, who was born in Ireland around 1821.
By the mid 1800's he was in Warwickshire.
In his census returns he simply states his place of birth as "Ireland" so I have no idea where to start looking for further details for him.

Any suggestions greatly received!

My problem is: I know he was born about 1821 and that he gave his birthplace in the 1861 census as 'Ireland' but that's it!
The websites you suggest are great, but without having an idea of where in Ireland to look, I'm stumped!
