Debden Suffolk or Essex?
« on: Thursday 24 November 05 13:11 GMT (UK) »
I have a Ancestor who was born in Debden. But not sure which county Debden would of been in in the late 1700's. On the 1851 Census it says she was born Debden Suffolk, after looking at multi map it looks more into Essex than Suffolk. Any ideas?
Thankyou
Jane

I always thought Debden was Suffolk
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Debden's currently Essex - not sure that it was ever in Suffolk.

but........ there is a Debenham in Suffolk - on the river Deben.

There is a Depden in Thingoe Registration district until 1908, now in Bury St Edmonds RD, but Debden is definitely in Essex - Saffron Walden RD.

This gives you a link to the parishes within the Blything District (it was all changed in 1935, but your birth registration for the district is well before the changeover).

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/blything.html

Leiston is a small town, home to the Long Shop Museum, formerly the Garrett works.
Sizewell is on the coast at ... Sizewell  ;)

Depden is indeed in west Suffolk, just five miles from Newmarket and nine from Bury St Edmunds.

Nearer to the Blything district would be Debenham, or possibly one of the Denham parishes (one near Eye in the east and the other in west Suffolk).

Many thanks Pat

I can't find out who she married, where she then lived nor where she died (confirmation)
She married someone in 1954 "At Suffolk"

There is a family tree on Ancestry with Muriel, which shows death occurred in the Deben Registration area.

Will PM details to see if you wish to contact tree owner.

Pat ...

PS - or is it your tree  ::)
